Karthik’s Commitment to Workplace Safety

Founder of A1 Sports World in Bengaluru, Karthik SG has been criticised for stating that his organisation will no longer hire male workers from the states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The explanation offered by him merits serious thought. It is to protect his female workers and the kids enrolled in the programmes run by his company.

As per Karthik, the decision came after firing a previous employee who had threatened women colleagues of the company despite being warned. He also stated that an attempt was made on a woman’s life. This has not been confirmed anywhere. Still, such allegations need immediate attention and must be taken very seriously by the employers.

The best justification offered by Karthik is that business interests cannot take priority over personal safety. No employee should ever feel that his employer would overlook any threatening acts on him just to save money or maintain the workforce. When an organisation deals with kids, this becomes even more important.
He has also questioned whether résumés and routine background checks can reveal abusive behaviour. That concern is understandable. Qualifications demonstrate professional preparation; they offer no guarantee of respectful conduct. Employers need safeguards that continue after recruitment, including accessible reporting procedures, supervision and a clear response to complaints.

However, a persuasive defence must address the weakness of excluding applicants according to their home state. No evidence cited in these reports establishes that men from these four states present a greater workplace risk. An individual’s alleged misconduct cannot establish the character of millions of other candidates.

Karthik can strengthen his argument by directing his resolve towards measures tied to individual behaviour: careful references, documented responses to misconduct, staff training and meaningful accountability. These measures would make his safety commitment concrete while allowing applicants to be judged on their own records.

He deserves a fair hearing for the concern he has raised and support for decisive action against harassment. His willingness to put employees first is worth defending. The most convincing continuation of that stand would be a hiring and workplace policy that protects women, respects evidence and treats every applicant fairly.
